SPOTLIGHT ON . . .
Stand #withMalala Union 28 Service Project
Join the Union 28 Elementary schools by participating in the MCBA MASH UP Stand #withMalala Service Project. Everyone at LES is invited to participate! This year, inspired by the book I Am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World, we are collecting donations of gently used kids’ and women’s clothing for THE MALALA FUND, which raises girls’ voices and works to ensure that every girl has access to 12 years of free, safe, and quality education. Donations will be collected in the LES Library through March 4th.
Option 1: Donate an article of clothing
Bring one article of gently used kids’ or women’s clothing to the Books in Action party, and we will be mailing the donations to Schoola.com. (They pay for the postage.) 40% of the proceeds will go directly to the Malala Fund to support girls' education projects in the most vulnerable communities around the world. Inspired and led by Malala’s example, the Malala Fund works to secure girls’ rights to a minimum of 12 years of quality education, particularly in the Global South. You can learn more at www.malala.org.
Option 2: Write a check to the “Malala Fund”.

We look forward to a month of creativity, amazing stories, and celebration of our hard work and fun!!

History in Stone
A Slide Show presentation by Dawn Marvin Ward
Sunday March 6, 2016 2 p.m. at Leverett Library
Family and local history have been preserved in special places that many don’t think to visit for historical purposes. Cemeteries are filled with local information and artwork while they last. Preservation of gravestones and recording the information they have engraved on them is valuable as another way to preserve our local history. Do you know how many cemeteries are in your town, where they are, what condition they are in and what you can learn from them of your local past? Join along on a slide show “visit” of the cemeteries of Leverett and see what history can be gleaned from them, and HOW to find further history from a headstone.
This program is funded by Leverett Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by The Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
ONLY 18 DAYS LEFT to help us create a Scavenger Hunt on the Walls of the Leverett Library.
Submit a photograph, a drawing, a poem, a riddle, or a paragraph about a place in Leverett for the Where in Leverett? exhibit. Bring your entry to the Leverett Library by March 15. Submission forms at the library desk.
Then come to the library in April to guess the places - and check your answers against the secret list.
KIDS YOGA
With Jai Fuller at The Yoga Center Amherst
Kids yoga is a playground that bridges the gulf between inner self and outer self. These classes draw on practices from Kundalini yoga, Hatha yoga and Awareness though the body to support kids in developing self awareness, (mind and body), self regulation, perseverance, and compassion. And they are super fun! Kids will learn that yoga is play, and play is yoga.
