LEVERETT SCHOOL COMMITTEE

FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The School Committee believes that any educational program is influenced greatly by the environment in which it functions. It is the Committee's goal to develop and maintain the facilities needed for the number of students in the school system, to anticipate changes in enrollment, and to provide the kind of facilities that will best support and accommodate the educational program.

Regarding capital projects, the Committee recognizes that capital outlay funds are limited, and that priorities must be established to make the best use of the state and local resources. Goals for new facility development will be informed by educational needs, the priorities and needs of the town, and community input. This process will be conducted with joint School/town leadership, mutually agreed upon by the Superintendent and the Select Board.

The Committee shall ensure that building plans provide sufficient space for students and staff to engage in those school-related activities which are consistent with the District’s educational mission. Design goals for a capital project should include but are not limited to: maximum educational utility, sound economics, low long-range maintenance costs, energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, low insurance rates, and flexibility of uses to meet the social, cultural and educational needs of the school, as well as the community.
